As an authorized provider of the Canadian Red Cross, Community Care First-Aid was established with the intent of exposing first-aid and CPR skills to people in the community in order to increase awareness and understanding about these essential life saving techniques.
Alon Hendel is the Director/Head Instructor for Community Care First-Aid. Before he became a Canadian Red Cross instructor, Alon was the head coordinator and instructor in the army medical school of the Israel Defense Force (IDF), where he trained hundreds of combat medics. Upon release from duty, Alon continued to train medical personal and volunteers for one of the best ambulance services in the world – Magen David Adom - MDA Israel, which is a member of the Red Cross international organization. To further establish his medical training skills Alon achieved a Bachelor of Medical Science degree from the University of Sydney, Australia, with a scholarship for academic achievement in 2005.
Currently, Alon is completing his PhD degree in cardiovascular research at the Heart + Lung Research Institute, St. Paul's Hospital, University of British Columbia.
In 2008 he was awarded the National Graduate Master Award from the Canadian Institute of Health Research (CIHR).
At Community Care First-Aid we are trying to bring to the communities within Vancouver the awareness for the importance of learning first-aid and CPR. From our experience we realize that the key to increasing the chance of saving someone’s life relies on community education. We believe that only by increasing the number of people around us that hold first-aid and CPR skills, we can offer a rapid response to any individual that may be experiencing a life threatening emergency; a response that will be much faster than any ambulance.

In order to achieve this goal, Community Care First-Aid adopted a unique approach that relies on training you in the most convenient and comfortable place whether it will be your community centre, office or even your home! That way we believe that first-aid and CPR education can be more approachable to people and most of all much more entertaining. While learning these important skills with your family and friends in an interactive and enjoyable way, we trust that more people will benefit from the learning experience and more of us will hold the knowledge and the ability to save lives.
